Remembering Shastriji, a great PM of Bharat, renowned for his humility, simplicity, and patriotism; on his Birth anniversary. Sri Lal Bahadur Shrivastava Ji was born to Sharada Prasad and Ramdulari Devi in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. His father worked as a clerk in the Revenue Office of Allahabad. When he was one year old his father passed away due to bubonic plague. Opposing the deeply ingrained caste system in India, at the age of 12, in 1917, he dropped his surname 'Shrivastava'. After he completed graduation, he was given the title 'Shastri', meaning scholar. On August 15, 1947, he became the Minister of Police and Transport. It was during his tenure first women conductors were appointed. He was the one who suggested the use of jets of water instead of lathis to disperse unruly crowds. Mahatma Gandhi and Shastri Jayanti.  What a providential coincidence it is that Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri - two of the most loved and revered leaders of India - share their birth date - 02 October, which is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti across India. Unfortunately, due to this coincidence, unwittingly, the saga of the extraordinary life, works and contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri to the nation are often eclipsed in public reportage during this occasion. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, I visited the Mani Bhavan and joined their celebration of the Gandhi Jayanti which was so beautifully organised with all religion prayers sung so beautifully by school students from different schools in Mumbai. It was heartening to see so many young students taking keen interest on Gandhi, listening intently to their teacher who was explaining Gandhiji’s association with Mani Bhavan and the nonviolent means which he adopted during the Indian freedom movement. #discoverersofindianhistory Charles Masson (real name James Lewis b.1800 d.1853) was a British East India Company army deserter, who accidentally became the first European to explorer of the Stupa and other ruins at Harappa (and thus discovered the site of Indus Valley Civilisation) in 1829 near Sahiwal in Punjab, now in Pakistan. Masson alias James Lewis joined the Bengal Artillery wing of the East India Company Army in India and once served in the Battle of Bharatpur. In 1827, while stationed at Agra, he and one of his fellow soldier deserted and traveled incognito through parts of the Punjab that were under British control at that time. At Ahmadpur, they were rescued by self proclaimed Raja of Ghor, Josiah Harlan and commissioned as them mounted orderlies in his expedition to overthrow the regime in Kabul, Afghanistan. Another revolution has started! The Quantum computers are coming. Probably after 50 years from now, people will look back and laugh at our current most powerful computers and the concerns about Artificial Intelligence! It will be something like the way we laugh at Bullock-cart when we are traveling by aircraft! Or it will be like the way we remember using log tables for large computations while writing a computer program to compute million times more complex calculations within seconds (I have done that both: using log sheets 40 years ago, and using computer now and writing computer programs). Within next decade, conventional computer programming by humans will cease to exist.  Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, one of the greatest patriots of India. Subhas Bose's gargantuan efforts with indefatigable energy to achieve independence of India will forever be etched in the annals of history. It will also be remembered as to how he endured injustice at the hands of the British and then Indian National Congress, and yet continued his struggle to fight for freedom of India and sacrificed his life for the country. I have finished reading the book 'SUBHAS - A political biography' by Sitanshu Das. I was engrossed in it for a while. It is worth mentioning that in his early life, Subhas Bose gave a contemptful response to the British by not accepting Indian Civil Service due to his zeal for freedom and independence. With this knowledge that Bose would be dangerous to the British Empire, the British tormented him mentally and tortured him physically in Andaman jail.
