Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, one of the greatest patriots of India.
Subhas Bose's gargantuan efforts with indefatigable energy to achieve independence of India will forever be etched in the annals of history. It will also be remembered as to how he endured injustice at the hands of the British and then Indian National Congress, and yet continued his struggle to fight for freedom of India and sacrificed his life for the country.
I have finished reading the book 'SUBHAS - A political biography' by Sitanshu Das. I was engrossed in it for a while. It is worth mentioning that in his early life, Subhas Bose gave a contemptful response to the British by not accepting Indian Civil Service due to his zeal for freedom and independence. With this knowledge that Bose would be dangerous to the British Empire, the British tormented him mentally and tortured him physically in Andaman jail. This could, however, not break his resolve and determination to fight for freedom of India.
His influential oratory, passion for freedom movement and his personal demeanour led him to be elected President of Indian National Congress in 1938 at the young age of 41. This did not go well with Mahatma Gandhi who had favoured Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Resigning from the post, Subhas Bose sought help from Axis Powers Germany, Italy and Japan (with the dictum - enemy of enemy) to unseat the British from India. He met Hitler to seek his support. However, a true racist, Hitler had contempt for India, and thought that British were right to rule India.
Soon realizing that it was futile to come to Germany, Bose wanted to return back home. However, the British moles in German Foreign Office did everything to delay his departure from Germany. Finally, after waiting for a year, Bose left Germany aboard a Japanese submarine to arrive in Singapore. He established the Indian National Army and became the first Prime Minister of the Government in Exile of India. Sadly, delayed arrival in the Far East and botched planning by Japanese officers, the impact of INA to capture territories from the British was muted. However, a momentum for independence was created and a blow to British designs was made by INA. His untimely death in a plane accident changed the equations for INA and its objectives were muted.
Needless to say that had Bose been alive and had he been the Prime Minister of independent India, the country could have been free from robber barons of the who withheld the true progress of the country for years. The country is now free from robbers and is making a true headway in achieving it's place in the comity of nations as Subhash Bose would have wanted. Jai Hind! जय भारत!
