The Shri Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir is an ancient Hindu temple located in Pakistan, specifically in Soldier Bazaar in Karachi, Sindh Province. This historic temple has a remarkable history, dating back approximately 1,500 years. What sets it apart is that it houses the only natural statue of Bhagawan Hanuman in the entire world.
|| Origin of Panch Mukhi Hanuman ji ||
The story of Sri Panchamukhi Hanuman ji finds its origin in the Ramayana, where a significant event unfolds during the war between Shree Rama and Ravana. Ravana sought the assistance of Mahiravanka, the ruler of Patala Loka.
In a valiant effort to safeguard Prabhu Ram and Lakshman, Hanuman Ji erected a protective barrier using his tail. However, Mahiravana, assuming the guise of Vibeeshana, managed to transport Prabhu Ram and Lakshman to the depths of Patala loka. Determined to rescue them, Hanuman Ji ventured into Patala loka. There, he discovered that to defeat Mahiravana, he needs to simultaneously extinguish five lamps burning in five different directions.
In response to this challenge, Bhagawan Hanuman took his Panchamukhi form, featuring faces representing Hanuman ji, Hayagriva, Narasimha, Garuda, and Varaha. In this form, he successfully extinguished the lamps and vanquished Mahiravana.
|| Significance Of Panch Mukhi Form ||
As per the Hanumath Prakaranam in Sri Vidyarnavatantram, Anjaneya possesses five faces, collectively referred as Pancha Mukha, and wields ten distinct weapons.
Hanuman is indeed regarded as a great yogi, having transcended the limitations of the five senses, known as Pancha Indriyas.
In the Kamba Ramayanam, composed in Tamil, the significance of the number five is beautifully portrayed through Hanuman's actions:
1. Hanuman Ji is considered the offspring of one of the five fundamental elements, specifically the wind, as he is known as "Pavana Thanaya."
2. He achieved the extraordinary feat of crossing one of the five primary elements (water), which is the vast ocean.
3. Hanuman traversed through another of the five essential elements, the sky, during his mission.
4. In his journey, he met the daughter of one of the five basic elements, Sita Devi, who symbolizes the earth.
5. Finally, Hanuman demonstrated his immense power by using one of the five elements, fire, to burn down Lanka.
These references highlight the profound symbolism and significance of the number five in Hanuman's legendary adventures as depicted in the Kamba Ramayanam.
The description of the five faces of the Hanuman idol, known as Panchamukhi, is as follows:
1. An East-facing Anjaneya face bestows upon humanity Ishta Siddhi, granting the fulfillment of desires and aspirations.
2. A South-facing Karala Ugraveera Narasimha face bestows upon humanity Abhista Siddhi, fulfilling all cherished wishes and desires.
3. A West-facing Mahaveera Garuda face bestows upon humanity Sakala Sowbhagya, granting overall prosperity and well-being.
4. A North-facing Lakshmi Varaha face bestows upon humanity Dhana Prapthi, ensuring the acquisition of wealth and riches.
5. Urdhva Mukha, situated at top, represents Hayagriva and bestows upon humanity Sarva Vidya Jaya Prapthi, which encompasses the attainment of knowledge and victory in all pursuits.
These five faces symbolize the diverse blessings and boons that Hanuman ji, in his Panchamukhi form, grants to those who worship him with devotion and sincerity
