The (Shaiva) temple at Mundeshwari hill, Ramgarh, Bihar is the earliest standing Hindu temples as recorded by the discovery of an inscription dated 635 AD. The superstructure that originally covered the temple did not exist (Picture A), when discovered by the Thomas Daniell in 1790. The temple after the restoration (Picture B). 
Picture C (1968) shows the Buddha and Boddhisatva’s figures at the entrance of the temple. 

The Chinese visitor, Hsien Tsang in 636 AD., wrote in his travelogue about a Buddhist shrine on a hilltop at about a distance of 200 lee south west of Patna -The location is confirmed as this at the Mundeshwari hill.
