attachment of muscles in human body.
The hip not only attaches to some of the largest muscles in the body and holds the creative organs and energy, but it also contains some really important biological wiring.
The hip has the femoral and foveal arteries and the femoral, obturator, superior gluteal nerves running through it.
In the image we can see the lymphatic system which is also highly concentrated around the hip and groin area.
The lymphatic system is the waste disposal system of the cardiovascular system. It clears and cleanses our blood.
In the Taoist tradition, these areas are seen as gates or nests, they are areas where energy, blood and other fluids are seen to bottle-neck and stagnate.
These gates or nests are found all over the body; they are normally at a junction, fold or crease. (which makes sense).
In Taoism they are called the Kua: the gates or nests.
In this ancient teaching the hips are seen as the main Kua.
When practicing postures that help open the hip we also help to improve the blood flow and energy flow to that area; by doing this we also improve the energy flow to our entire body.
As well as stretching and gentle purposeful movements, some light tapping and brushing of the area can also help remove stagnation and improve flow.
(This should be done with the hips gently tucked in, knees slightly bent and feet shoulder-width apart).
